Day 6 - Pula and Rovinj

We began our day at the Admiral Hotel in Opatija.

Our drive from Opatija to Pula along the coast was spectacular, but a totally different micro-climate (per Tom).  We now saw pine trees, magnolia trees and olive trees.  The architecture took on a decidedly Italianate flavor (per Debbie).

Our first stop was Pula to see the Roman Amphitheater.  The arena was surprisingly well preserved and quite impressive.  We walked around the old town and found it interesting and picturesque.

Next stop Rovinj.  We checked into the Lone Hotel, which was extremely modernistic and quite unlike any place we have ever stayed.

Our visit to the old town proved to be as interesting as promised.  The town is referred to as a mini Venice; we concur.

We happened upon a quaint wine store which sold the Krukovatz (pear brandy) that Tom had sampled the night before.  OK boys, get ready for Thanksgiving.  The clerk at the wine shop gave us a recommendation for dinner.  Her brother was the cook at the Restaurant Golab.

We finished our tour with an early dinner and everyone, including Lisa, had a dinner that was beyond belief.  Lisa and Debbie enjoyed the Croatian specialty of a sauce made with truffles - to die for.  We returned to our hotel, sat out on the balcony and drank wine and blogged.  Another wonderful day.  Tomorrow Italy.
