Day 4 - Obrovac and Zadar

Happy Anniversary Tom and Lisa.  We left Budapest bright and early and headed towards Croatia.  This was our long drive day.  We stopped in Karlovac for our first Croatian meal.  However, every place we found was either a coffee cafe or a bar. Tom finally got to use his newly acquired language skills to find an open restaurant.  It worked!!!  We were guided to Tiffany's Restaurant.  Everyone enjoyed their meal except Lisa.  She didn't even like the ketchup, but she loved the bread and enjoyed the Pepsi.

After lunch we began our climb into the Dinaric Alps.  We were very surprised at the rocky and arid terrain.  We went through a number of tunnels and finally saw our first sign for Obrovac.  The town was nestled into a very steep hillside.  Tom was excited to have finally reached the birthplace of his grandfather, George Brkic.

As it was beginning to get dark, we hustled to our resort hotel in Zadar. Since it was all inclusive, we enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner at the hotel.  When Lisa came back from filling her plate, she found a small box on the table in front of her seat.  Tom surprised her with a beautiful James Avery necklace.  She was very surprised and happy.

We concluded the evening blogging and drinking wine on our veranda.
